Weligton: “Rayo are competitive and will take advantage of playing at home”
Weligton held this Maundy Thursday’s press conference at the Ciudad de Málaga Athletics Stadium, and analysed Saturday’s away match against Rayo Vallecano.
Firstly, Weligton discusses his fitness level: “I’m currently undergoing extra training to help me recover more quickly. I’m working like I have been doing in previous weeks.”
Regarding Rayo, the Brazilian-born defender believes Paco Jémez’s team to be a dangerous rival: “Rayo Vallecano are competitive and will take advantage of playing at home. They’re in the top half of the table and are very much in the fight for European positions.”
Weligton also looks at Málaga CF’s participation in the UEFA Champions League and briefly focuses on the quarter-final rival, Borussia: “Our priority at the moment is Saturday’s match. Then we’ll put all our energies into the next game. Every Champions League match we play we’re making history, as it’s the first time the Club has ever taken part in this competition. We’ve all got the same objective, which is to go as far as we can in the Champions League, so it’s vital that we focus on ourselves as a team and ensure that each individual is the best they can be. We’re also a very competitive team.”
Finally, the ‘Malaguista’ defender talks about the importance of the forthcoming BBVA League matches: “We’re now in the final part of the League season, and the coach is concentrating on the psychological aspects of each player to get the best out of us. We said from the start that the League is the most important competition, as we want to be in Europe next year. It’s very important for the Club.”
