Málaga CF and Antequera CF faced each other this Sunday in a celebration of Malagueño football. Both clubs met on Primera Federación matchday 10, 29 years after their last meeting in the league championship (3rd Division). There was a spectacular atmosphere at El Maulí with more than 1,000 Malaguistas in the stands.
The match got off to an even start. Both teams attempted to take control of the game in the wide zone and surround the rival goal. Pellicer kicked off with the following starting line-up: A. Herrero; Jokin, Nelson, Einar, Dani Sánchez; Genaro, Juanpe; Kevin, Larrubia; Dioni and Roberto.
The first major warning of the game came from Kevin. The winger tried his luck from the front; His shot - dry and powerful - came close to the right post (2').
The local team searched insistently for Herrero's goal in the subsequent minutes. They repeatedly tried to access the target from the right wing, but the expeditious Blue and White defence seamlessly repelled the attacks.
Genaro came close to a goal on two similar occasions. The midfielder shot from the edge of the box at the left post, but the goalkeeper managed to clear the attempts in both actions within just two minutes (32' and 34').
However, it was third time lucky. Genaro, after gaining possession at the edge of the area, hit the base of the far post with quality to make it 0-1 in the 43rd minute. At half-time we remained 0-1 up.
The match resumed with a new, very clear opportunity for the Malaguistas. Dioni led a counterattack that ended with an assist to Larrubia. The midfielder received the ball in the heart of the area, but the rival goalkeeper’s reflexes prevented the Blue and White number 10's shot.
MCF managed to multiply their lead in the 53rd minute. Kevin intercepted a bad clearance by local goalkeeper Enric and, in a one on one with the keeper, smashed the ball into the net (0-2).
Both teams exchanged approaches for the remainder of play, but the scoreboard didn’t move again. At full time the score was a definitive 0-2 victory.
