Víctor: “We’re not satisfied with just a point”

The Malaguista coach reviewed the match against CF Fuenlabrada in the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda: “We understand that we drew today as we weren’t able to score a goal”.

Hunger and eagerness to score points

“When you prepare all the matches with the intention of winning, you aren’t satisfied with just one point. We understand that we have a point as we weren’t able to score a goal. This is the aspect of the game that has penalised us the most since the beginning of the season”.

Solvent defence

“The team has been very solvent and solid. We were up against a rival that is an expert in direct play, with a forward who creates a whole host of problems with his aerial play ability and creating second plays. We suffered, but we also countered very well. The rival didn’t have any goal opportunities. Another highly positive aspect of Fuenlabrada is their performance on the counterattack. We managed to control this well in a match where we were going to foreseeably have possession of the ball. We were going to focus play in the rival half and be far more exposed to counterattack situations. Defensively, the team was very solvent. In other games with these characteristics where we haven’t been successful in front of goal, we’ve been penalised for making a mistake which the rival took advantage of. This happened against Ponferrada, we were penalised for a detail in a counterattack. In this match we were more solvent in defence so as to avoid these problems”.

No success in front of goal

“We weren’t able to score a goal, and if we don’t do that then we’re not going to win the three points. We must keep working hard and insisting to improve this aspect of our gameplay, which is crucial in achieving victories. We created occasions, we would have liked more, but this is a rival that also defends very well. Scoring points is always positive, the team is still on the right lines and we can only thank the players for their effort, commitment and attitude to work hard to improve and be more effective in front of goal. That’s what we need to do”.
