Víctor: “There are no buts in regard to any of our players, they competed against one of the best teams in the category”

The Malaguista coach analysed the clash with Real Zaragoza in the post-match press conference: “It was a great game between two teams that wanted to win throughout”.

Efficiency is key

“The final result is fair, as in football, efficiency is what matters. Now we can look at how this final result was reached, the situations worked on, tactics in defence and attack, the strategy… and from there we’re on track to reaching the result, but efficiency is key. I believe it was a great game between two teams that wanted to win throughout. Every player did their job and managed their strengths well. We knew from the outset that taking possession away from Zaragoza, at their stadium  and at the level they’re at now, would be extremely tough. However, we also tried to defend very well and directed gameplay towards the areas where we know we’re stronger. That said, they were able to score a goal to go level at 1-1 and again in the closing stages of play. Zaragoza showed their quality on the pitch, and as I said in the pre-match press conference, for me they are one of the firm candidates for promotion as they have it all, a great squad, great coach, fantastic fans and this wonderful stadium”.

Great job against a major rival

“We’re very happy, there are no buts in regard to any of our players, they competed against one of the best teams in the category. We had possibilities to obtain victory. We knew how to suffer at times and we knew how to manage the ball well and crate dangerous situations. The team has personality and we’re very pleased. It’s just those final details that make all the difference”.

Maintaining the enthusiasm

“We were able to score two goals, something that’s been a struggle for us so far and which has been costing us dearly. As such, we need to stay on this track. We have great confidence in and enthusiasm for our players. Despite the difficulties of competing with 17 professionals, that limits us when it comes to selecting alternatives for the starting-11 or during matches, as I always say, we’re not making excuses. It’s a situation we have to face and we do so as another challenge. I can’t ask the players for any more as they give their all, which gives us confidence to carry on down this road as I’m certain the winning results will arrive sooner or later”.
