Víctor: “The team will continue to grow”

The Malaguista coach analysed the victory against CD Tenerife in a press conference: “For us there was a motivation, to make our fans happy”.

An important victory for several reasons

“For us there was a motivation, the only important one, which is to make our fans happy. We feel enormously responsible for the effort they’re making to constantly support us through the tough times we’ve experienced this season. The best way to return all this effort is to make them happy, and happiness stems from victories, especially at La Rosaleda, for them to really enjoy it. This is the team’s biggest motivation at home. In addition, this match provided the opportunity to beat an opponent who had a point advantage over us and go ahead of them in the standings. This is also positive. Obviously, this was one of the goals beyond this match. We’re delighted to have achieved these two objectives, and in addition, we’re thrilled for the players. They deserved to score three points, for the hard work they do during the week, today they reaped the reward. I think justice has been done for the work they’ve been doing, and these three points make them very happy”.

Long way to go

“Today’s three points are good, nothing more. We have a very long road ahead of us, full of difficulties. Today’s game leaves us with numerous positive readings, in the sense that the team did a great job and knew how to read the moments of play when it mattered. We managed the game well, we knew Tenerife likes to take risks with combinative gameplay, which we’d worked on to try and combat. The team did really well, we were able to avoid conceding opportunities; I think Munir only had to intervene on one counter-attack in the first half”.

A solid, seamless team

“The team was very serious. I think it’s important that we know how to read matches well, that we don’t make costly mistakes as has happened in other games, where rivals doing very little have been able to surpass us. Today we didn’t make any mistakes, reduced the rival’s attacking options and were very effective, which is essential. Effectiveness when it comes to shooting is fundamental”.

Effectiveness in attack and defence is key

“Attack and defence are the two aspects that determine a team’s performance in football. Before this game, we were the team to have conceded the fifth fewest goals, which is important, we must perform well in defence. Obviously, keeping a clean sheet allows you to earn a point, which is the same in terms of attack. If you can’t score goals you can’t score three points, you can only score one if you defend well and don’t concede. Both things are very positive, the set piece is extremely important as further actions that contribute to the team. As I say week after week, the team will continue to grow and fight in the face of all the difficulties that may arise. Today’s match, although it may appear straightforward because of the outcome, was not at all easy considering how competitive this division is”.
