The Malaguista coach attended to the media in the press room at the Carlos Belmonte following the narrow defeat against Albacete BP: “We have to work hard and insist in this aspect, it’s decisive in competing”.
Struggle to score goals
“The reality is it is a struggle to score goals, which is penalising us. We were playing away from home against an important rival such as Albacete who started in an irregular way, but it’s a team that defends well and scores goals. They did little on the attack, we controlled their attacking play very well. One shot they made ended in a goal, we made 12 or 14 and weren’t able to score. Hitting the post, saves, missing the goal…this is what is marking our gameplay at the start of the competition. We’re working hard to improve this aspect, we’re generating opportunities, but they need to materialise. If you don’t score a goal, it’s very difficult to claim victories”.
The goal is key to winning
“The goal is key. To win matches you have to score goals and it’s a real struggle for us. It’s something we have identified, we played without a forward in the team, yet with the arrival of the new signings we’ve had a clear reference such as Sadiku, but we’re still not effective enough on the attack so as to claim victories. What can we do? We have to work hard and insist in this aspect, it’s decisive in competing”.
Substitution due to injury
“The Mikel substitution came due to Juankar’s injury, which is something we hadn’t anticipated. Our idea was to have more depth with Juankar and Cifu. The entrance of Luis Muñoz gives us the possibility to play upfront with centre-backs, and also at the back, with these alternatives as we’ve managed today. We controlled the match, had more possession, more shots and moments of better situations on the attack. In defence we struggled somewhat, they made lateral shots that we defended well and an action from a corner led to the goal. At least when you aren’t accurate in goal, if you defend well you don’t concede anything, but you can’t afford to make a mistake as happened to us. However, the match ended in defeat and we need to work hard to improve on everything we need to improve. The goal is absolutely essential”.
Debut of Antoñín
“All the players have to do their bit in regard to set pieces, from the arrival of players on the second line, etc. The debut of Antoñín is good news. He joined the game, created a lot of danger, provoked a card, these are all positives. We’ll do everything we can to improve our definition which we need in order to win games”.
