Víctor: “It’s a massive confidence boost”

The Málaga CF coach appeared in the press room at La Rosaleda following the team’s 3-0 win against Real Oviedo: “If our fans are happy it’s because the team is doing things well”, he commented.

“It’s a massive confidence boost. Positive results are the best way to build confidence. The way they did it tonight, with a man down for 60 minutes of the match, the confidence boost is even greater. They proved that they are players who can be trusted. They’re great guys and extremely committed. In addition, we were able to make the fans happy. If our fans are happy it’s because the team is doing things well. Now we’re in the key stage of the competition, engaging the fans is always positive”.

Adapting to adversity

“Since our arrival we sent a clear message, that we’re going to try and make things happen, not wait for them to happen. Today things went against us with the expulsion of Keidi, which we were forced to adapt to. We played in a different way than we did with 11 men, and at times we were able to get the ball and generate opportunities. In fact, we achieved more shots than the rival”.

Juankar and Koné

“They’re not ready for 90 minutes yet, they’ve had a very good recovery and even advanced quicker than expected. I like it when the player’s own feelings determine how far they’ve come, as confidence and adrenaline often provide a boost. We needed them tonight and their depth on the left wing was great. The entire team is in good physical condition which is down to the merit of the previous coaching team”.

Clean sheet

“We’re giving a good performance both in attack and defence. The goals we conceded in previous games stemmed from set pieces, and today we defended with 10 men and barely ceded any dangerous chances. We’re very happy in that sense and will continue to work hard to improve in all aspects”.

The expulsion

“When an action like this occurs, there are often moments of uncertainty, but the truth is this didn’t happen to us. We reorganised ourselves with a 4-4-1 formation, closed up and made the most of the speed we had. We didn’t want to leave ourselves at the expense of the rival. Oviedo focus a lot on direct play, many second plays, and we didn’t want the game to go that way, so we sought the second and the third from counter-attacks”.
