Very international week for Alexander

The versatile Blue and White player, called-up for Venezuela-Uruguay taking place in the early hours of the morning, will be in action with his national team in the Copa América kicking off on Sunday in Brazil.

Alexander González, who was part of the starting line-up in the recent Bolivia-Venezuela World Cup Qatar 2022 qualifier, faces another FIFA CONMEBOL fixture tonight ahead of the World Cup. The ‘Vinotinto’ side will play Luis Suárez’s Uruguay.

“We knew that the Bolivian game was going to be difficult, but the group adapted despite a negative result. We remain focused on the next match against Uruguay, a team that is doing pretty well. But at home we have to take the game forward to be closer to qualifying for the World Cup competition”, stated Alexander to the Venezuelan Football Federation’s official media.

In addition, the Malaguista fullback has been selected by his country for the Copa América 2021 which gets underway this weekend in Brazil. The first match of the competition will pit Venezuela against Brazil on Sunday 13th June at 23:00 (Spanish time) at the Mané Garrincha stadium. José Peseiro’s men are in Group B of the tournament along with the aforementioned Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

Alexander joins a select number of Venezuelan players who, belonging to Málaga CF, were called-up for the Copa América. Rondón (2011), Rosales (2015 and 2016), Juanpi (2016) and Mikel, whilst part of Atlético Malagueño, (2016) are his predecessors.
