Victory for Málaga CF against UD Las Palmas, at La Rosaleda, on matchday 17 of LaLiga SmartBank. Antoñín and Sekou scored the goals during this home win, featuring more than 22,000 fans in the stands.
An afternoon of pure football at Martiricos. In the run-up to play, there was an impressive welcome for the team outside the stadium by the Malaguista fans. On the pitch, slightly wet from the rainfall, the main changes to José Alberto’s starting-11 were the return of Víctor Gómez on the right wing for Calero, and homegrown player Ramón joining captain Escassi, in place of suspended Genaro.
Antoñín and Paulino were very active on the wings in the opening stages, although it was UD Las Palmas that generated more danger in the areas. First, in 9’, a shot from distance from Loiodice was saved by Dani Martín. Clemente hit the left post in 21’ and Viera in 27’ forced another save by Martín.
Yet on the half-hour, Málaga opened the scoring. A spectacular change of direction from Peybernes was controlled by Víctor Gómez, who provided a sensational pass to Brandon for Antoñín to send the ball to the back of the net at the far post (1-0, 30’). What a goal.
Jesé, one of the rival’s great stars, appeared in 40’ from the left with two consecutive chances that didn’t find the goal. Then with a cross shot that grazed the right post, the number ‘10’ nearly went level for the visitors in 44’. Lemos could have also scored in stoppage time, but Dani Martín stopped it in its tracks. At half-time, the score remained 1-0.
Viera tried his luck in 47’ with a shot saved by Dani Martín. Five minutes later, Loiodice was shown his second yellow card and subsequently sent off. Jozabed was José Alberto’s first substitution in place of Antoñín in 59’.
Las Palmas didn’t notice the numerical inferiority on the field of play. Mel's men continued with their match plan, with Viera and Jesé as the main attackers. Ramón, due to injury, and Roberto, made way for Ismael Gutiérrez and Kevin (72 ').
In the closing stages, Benito Ramírez equalised for UD Las Palmas (1-1, 77’). A minute later, Kevin’s shot hit the post. In 83’, the final change for the Blue and Whites saw Sekou come on in place of Paulino. Then The Panther, practically in the first ball he touched, drove the winning goal for the Malaguistas. A corner from the right was picked up by Jozabed, and Sekou, with a superb header, scored the winner(2-1, 86’). La Rosaleda went crazy with 22,000 fans on their feet.
2-1, the second consecutive League win for MCF, who remain unbeaten at Martiricos. 23 out of 27 points obtained at La Rosaleda out of nine games at the Blue and White temple. Vamos, Málaga!
