Málaga CF suffered an away defeat at the hands of Deportivo de La Coruña in the 32nd LaLiga Santander match of the season.
Possession of the ball was split between both teams in the first part of the match, as they struggled to gain control of play in midfield. As time went on, the Malaguistas began to dominate possession and sought various approaches to Sporting’s area. Rosales tried his luck with a powerful shot from in front of the area in minute 30, which was blocked by local German-born keeper, Lux. In addition, Juankar launched a promising right-footer to the near post 10 minutes later, that was again prevented by the local goalkeeper. At 0-0, the referee blew the half-time whistle.
No sooner than a minute into the second half, Joselu put the local side in front with a tight header (1-0, min 46). Following the goal, the Malaguistas launched into attacking mode. Mikel, in 58’, fired a strong shot from inside the area that was repelled by Lux, but the move was declared offside.
A minute later, Mikel made some changes and brought on Jony and Keko in place of Chory and Luis Hernández. With the entrance of the two new players, Málaga CF tried to intensify approaches to the rival goal.
The more the Malaguistas attacked, the closer a tie seemed, however Mosquera increased Dépor’s lead to 2-0 in the 66th minute.
In minute 70, the Málaga coach made his third and final change, bringing on Charles in place of Recio, to allow for more attacking options for the Malaguista squad in the final stretch of play. Málaga CF was undeterred by the two Deportivo goals and continued in search of the target. Camacho propelled a mighty shot to the crossbar in minute 80, and Llorente tried to surprise with an acrobatic bicycle kick following a corner in the 81st minute, that went out.
The referee’s final whistle stopped the Malaguista attempts, and the Blue and Whites lost 2-0 to Dépor in the 32nd LaLiga Santander match.
