Seven new rivals in LaLiga 1|2|3

Málaga CF will have seven new opponents during the 19/20 season in the silver division. Girona, Huesca, Rayo, Racing, Fuenlabrada, Ponferradina and Mirandés are the new upcoming rivals.

Three teams relegated from LaLiga Santander; Girona FC, Rayo Vallecano and SD Huesca, along with those promoted from Second B; Real Racing Club de Santander, CF Fuenlabrada, SD Ponferradina and CD Mirandés represent one third of the 21 teams Málaga CF will face in the next Liga 1|2|3 campaign.

The three former ‘Firsts’

  • Girona FC. There have only been two previous confrontations between Girona and the Blue and Whites, in the First Division, in the 17/18 season. 1-0 in Montilivi for the locals and 0-0 at La Rosaleda.
  • Rayo Vallecano. Two matches against the Madrid side in the Second Division, during the 98/99 season (1-3 at La Rosaleda and 0-2 at Vallecas), and since then a total of 18 matches in the First Division.
  • SD Huesca. Huesca and the Malaguistas have never played one another in an official match.

The four promoted teams

  • Real Racing Club de Santander. The first season that Málaga CF and Racing will lock horns in the Second Division. They have faced each other in the First Division (20 games) and Copa del Rey (two games). Former Blue and White player, Isco Alarcón scored his first goal as a Malaguista at Campos de Sport de El Sardinero (Racing 1-3 Málaga CF, 21/11/2011).
  • SD Ponferradina. Two previous matches, in the Second Division, in the 2006/07 season, between the Bercianos and Malaguistas. Both ended in a draw (1-1 and 2-2).
  • CD Mirandés. Two games between the Burgaleses and Blue and Whites in the Copa del Rey (2015/16 season) are the only precedents.
  • CF Fuenlabrada. The Madrid club and the Malaguistas have never faced one another in an official match.
