Sergio Sánchez: “We’re focused on the match against Betis”
Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Sergio Sánchez held a press conference at the Ciudad de Málaga athletics stadium to analyse the team ahead of Monday’s match against Real Betis Balompié.
Firstly, Sergio Sánchez talks about the last game against RCD Espanyol: “It was tough not being able to play. Watching the match you could see we dominated the majority of play, but we were unable to keep any points at home. We put on an intensive performance, but the rival managed to score twice. We weren’t relaxed on the pitch at all.”
Regarding the recent refereeing decisions that have affected the team, the ‘Malaguista’ hopes the boys will respond with a win on Monday: “It feels like we’ve been persecuted in the last few games, but I like to think that the refs are only human and can make mistakes. The arbitral decisions haven’t gone in our favour over the past month, but we don’t want to waste our energies on them. We’re concentrating on Betis now and hope we can come back victorious. A win on Monday would help us forget the poor refereeing decisions, so we need to focus on this upcoming game.”
Sergio Sánchez was pleased with the fans’ support at La Rosaleda last Tuesday: “The atmosphere was fantastic. To see La Rosaleda crowded with cheering supporters on a Tuesday night is wonderful for the team.”
The Málaga CF player knows how difficult the match at the Benito Villamarín will be: “Betis need to cling on to every possibility that they have, and so do we. It’ll be an intense, hard-fought game for both teams I think. With just nine games to go this season, there are no favourites at this point. Any team is capable of anything. If we can continue along the same line, then I believe few teams will pass us by.”
The Blue and Whites’ defender says the team will go all out to win in the forthcoming matches: “We’re going to do our best not to make ourselves and our fans suffer. We’d be in a comfortable position with three wins, so we’re determined to achieve victory. The next two games against Betis and Granada are extremely important.”
Finally, Sergio Sánchez sends a message of support to his teammate, Tissone: “He’s got the entire team behind him. Everything will turn out fine, he’s a strong player.”
