Sergio Sánchez: “It’s important we now concentrate on consolidating all our hard work”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Sergio Sánchez held a post-training press conference this afternoon, to analyse the team’s recent performance and the next League match against Real Sociedad (Saturday, 4 p.m., Anoeta).

Firstly, Sergio Sánchez talks about the Blue and Whites’ next rival: “They’re a strong team with quality players who can easily unbalance a game.  We’re working with the coach on trying to minimise their strong points, maximise our strengths and focus on playing a good match this weekend.”

The ‘Malaguista’ analyses the team’s first win of the season: “We weren’t under any real pressure to achieve our first victory of the season.  We’ve been working hard since the start of the League competition, which paid off with a fantastic result last Sunday.  It’s important we now concentrate on consolidating all our hard work from the match against Rayo, we’re all motivated and completely focused.  We’ve got very clear ideas and aims for Saturday’s game and we’re determined to come home with a win.”

The Catalán-born defender has shown a great level of skill so far this season: “I needed to focus on feeling like a footballer again and regain my confidence, which I’ve now done.  I feel like an important part of the team and my competitive streak is back in full force!”

Sánchez refers to his teammate Weligton: “We miss him a great deal and hope he makes a speedy recovery.  We’ve now got Angeleri who has been playing very well in recent matches.”

Finally, Sergio Sánchez discusses the memories from last year’s Champions League: “We’ve got some amazing memories from our debut performance in the Champions League last season, and we really want to get back there.  We’ve got our feet firmly on the ground and are determined to do as well as we can so we can again hear the Champions anthem throughout our stadium.”
