Sergio Pellicer García (Nules, Castellón, 1973) began his connection with Málaga CF during his playing career, forming part of the first team between 1995 and 1997.
As a coach, he made history with the Juvenil ‘A’ side by winning the Spanish Champions Cup a decade ago (2015/16) and competing in the UEFA Youth League. Over the following two seasons, he alternated between roles as assistant coach and technical assistant with the first team.
After a brief spell with RC Deportivo de La Coruña’s reserve team, he returned to the club to take charge of Atlético Malagueño and later stepped up to manage the first team during the 2019/20 season. He made his debut on 14th February 2020 (a 1–0 win against SD Ponferradina at La Rosaleda), completing a notable year and a half in the Second Division amid the pandemic.
After a brief stint at CF Fuenlabrada (2021/22), Pellicer returned to the Club in January 2023, almost three years after his debut as head coach. The epic promotion to LALIGA HYPERMOTION in the 2023/24 season and the team’s survival in the Second Division in 2024/25, with a squad built around numerous homegrown players, awarded him a very special place in the Club’s history.
No less than right behind the man whose name graces the home bench at La Rosaleda Stadium, the legendary Joaquín Peiró. Sergio Pellicer leaves Málaga CF having managed a total of 186 official matches, second in this category only to Peiró (224).
Pellicer has been, and continues to be, an example of humility, hard work, and a deep sense of belonging. Under his leadership, more than 20 players developed at the MCF Academy, made their first-team debut, reflecting his commitment to the young talent produced by the Blue and White youth system, where he himself once stood out as a coach.
Beyond the results, Pellicer leaves an indelible mark on the Club’s recent history, and his unconditional love for the badge makes him ‘one of our own.’
Málaga Club de Fútbol wishes Sergio Pellicer the greatest success in his future projects, both personal and professional. Thank you for your commitment, your passion, and for proudly representing the Malaguista spirit. Thank you, and best of luck, míster.
