Second consecutive draw away from home and fourth match without defeat (0-0)

Málaga CF claimed a point from Almendralejo following the goalless draw at the Francisco de la Hera against Extremadura UD, on LaLiga SmartBank matchday 20.

There was a good representation of Malaguista fans for this morning’s match away from home. On the pitch, in regard to the previous starting-11 against Tenerife, VSDA introduced Benkhemassa in midfield in place of injured Pacheco.

The locals got off to a good start, generating three corners in the first 10 minutes of play. The first arrival for Málaga came from Keidi in 14’ with a long shot at the target. In 21’, Luis Hernández was shown the yellow card which carries suspension, being the fifth he has accumulated. The locals impeded the usual combinative play of Víctor’s men, during a pretty even game from the outset.

Without any prominence in either of the areas, the scoreboard remained all square at half-time.

In the second half, Víctor introduced his first substitution. Portuguese winger, Renato Santos came on in place of Benkhemassa, bringing more verticality and depth to the wing. The wingers, meanwhile, stayed compact in defence awaiting to steal possession and launch a counterattack. In 58’, the Blue and Whites made a second substitution, with Juanpi coming on in place of Juankar. Málaga improved and enjoyed more arrivals, although lacked punch in the final shot.

In the closing stages, Diego González was shown the yellow card, the fourth this season, meaning he’s on the verge of suspension ahead of the next match. Munir, in 85’, made a superb save from a local attempt that appeared to be offside. Around the 90th minute, young homegrown player, Julio made his debut with MCF, replacing number ‘9’, Armando Sadiku. Luis Hernández, who suffered a blow, left the Blue and Whites a man down in the final minutes.

With no time for more, the hard-fought match ended in a goalless draw. Another point for Málaga CF, now with 21 points out of 20 LaLiga SmartBank matches, and in a provisional 16th place in the standings.
