Saviola: “This heavy match schedule will define what we can achieve as a team”

Javier Saviola held this morning’s press conference, analysing Málaga CF’s forthcoming games in April, particularly the next two BBVA League matches in Vallecas and San Sebastián, and the UEFA Champions League quarter-final clash with Borussia Dortmund.

The Argentinean-born striker is positive about Saturday’s League match against a direct rival for European football next season: “We’ve got an important match coming up against Rayo Vallecano, one of our direct rivals in the fight for European positions.  We’re determined not to let any more points get away, so it’s crucial that we come back with a win from this match.  A lot of responsibility lies on our shoulders this week, in the quest for three points on Saturday.”

Four matches in two weeks, eight in a month – which could amount to nine if Málaga CF reaches the UEFA Champions League semi-finals – Saviola states: “This heavy match schedule will define what we can achieve as a team.  We’re up against Rayo, Real and Borussia over the next fortnight, in games that could really boost morale, are crucial in terms of maintaining our objectives and that will really test us as a team.”

As well as the importance of the next League game, the ‘Malaguista’ striker highlights the Blue and Whites’ rival in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals: “We’re facing an extremely difficult team, in the quarter-finals.  At this stage of the competition no one team is easier to defeat than another.  The last eight have reached this level because they’ve performed brilliantly in this competition, and are excellent teams, like Borussia.”
