Samuel: “We’ve still got a lot of work to do; we need to win against Espanyol”

Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Samuel García held a press conference at La Rosaleda today to analyse the team and Tuesday’s home match against RCD Espanyol (8 p.m.)

Following victory in Balaídos, Samuel believes Tuesday’s match against Espanyol is crucial: “Bringing home three points from Vigo was important for us, but we’ve still got a lot of work to do.  It’s vital that we continue to perform well and move up the League table as soon as possible.  Every match from now on is crucial, and although we’ve achieved good away results, we need to get some home wins in front of our fans, starting with three points against Espanyol.”

The ‘Malagueño’ player is confident the team will continue to play as well as they have done in recent matches against Espanyol: “The way we’re playing at the moment is good, as we’ve shown excellent game play and achieved positive results.  Everyone is working hard to make sure we play well together as a team.  The atmosphere in the dressing room is good ahead of our next game, but we’re up against a difficult rival, as Espanyol have some quality players.  I’m confident we can keep three points at La Rosaleda on Tuesday, as long as we remain focused from kick off and play well.”

The Blue and Whites’ attacking midfielder hopes the suspended players won’t affect the team’s performance: “A lot of players are out through suspension this week due to an accumulation of cards, some of which were totally unnecessary.  Neither Camacho nor Tissone will be in midfield, but whoever takes their place will perform as well, if not better.”

Samuel, who came close to a goal in Balaídos, is establishing his place in Bernd Schuster’s starting-11: “I feel more comfortable on the pitch with every match I play.  I want to play as much as possible and help the team in any way I can.”

Finally, Samuel García has a message for the fans: “I always say the same thing.  The fans are incredibly loyal to the team, despite the match timetable.  We really need their support in order to move forward.”
