Ruano: “The team that wins the tie will have many possibilities to reach Second B”
The Atlético Malagueño coach holds a press conference ahead of the second round return leg 2B play-off against CD Castellón.
Tough match
“There are 90 minutes in play, and it’s going to be a very tough match. It’s a final, although in reality, there’s no other reward apart from winning the tie. However, it’s the most important game we’ve got at the moment, and we don’t want to be on holiday on Monday.”
First leg
“We started off very poorly. They forced certain situations, not that it should detract from the rival, but it’s true that we didn’t compete very well. We made mistakes, which weren’t all down to us. I think all the errors made were overworked. We knew how they could damage us, which is exactly what they did. Luckily, in the second half we came out alive. We could have lost the tie there. We didn’t, and are now determined to make the most of the opportunity we have here.”
“This is football. You’ve seen the Second A promotion play-offs, in which the two have been almost the same. These things happen in football, but we hope it won’t happen to us. I accept the fact that we made mistakes, I don’t like the idea that my players didn’t put enough effort in. I’m sure that won’t be the case on Sunday. We are aware that this could be the last game, and if we don’t all work together, not only could it be the last, it will be. We are clear that our individual strengths could determine the match, but in order to do that we need to be the superior side over Castellón, who are a good team.”
CD Castellón
“They are a difficult rival. I think we were unlucky, like them, in the draw. There are play-offs that are far more obtainable. I think whoever wins the tie, will be in Second Division B next season.”
High temperatures
“I’ll go home with a tan. It’s crazy, I don’t know what will happen, but it will affect us. At these temperatures you can’t play a match. Logically, certain teams struggle more than others, but we hope it’s not us. The pitch will put the teams in their place. I hope we’re in the draw on Monday. Whatever happens, we’re a strong candidate for promotion.”
Fans
“We’re very grateful, incredibly excited and keen to repeat the same scenario we had a fortnight ago, which was amazing. We’re thankful to the fans for supporting us, and would encourage those thinking about coming to watch the match to do so. Our fans’ support is so important to us.”
