Rondón: "The important thing is that the team feels good and we take something positive away from the match”

Following the match against Zamora FC, the first of two matches for Málaga in Venezuela, coach Manuel Pellegrini and ‘vinotinto’ striker José Salomón Rondón held a press conference in the Agustín Tovar ‘La Carolina’ stadium.

Pellegrini

(First match of the tour) “The main thing is that it was a useful match for both teams, we’re both in mid-preparations for next season, and making a lot of changes.  It’s vital that we pace ourselves, not just from a physical aspect, but also with regards to game play.  I don’t think either team was really match-ready; we’ve been undergoing intensive training for the past two days, as well as a tough session yesterday, so I think the match went well and we can learn from it.  For me the end result isn’t the most important factor in friendly matches.  It’s important that the players are all at full fitness and prepared for the season ahead.”

(Review and next match) “This week in Venezuela has been good practice for the team.  We’ve put together the program that we needed, intense training for two or three days, followed by two friendly games.  Everything is going to plan at the moment, and now we’re looking ahead to our match against Caracas.  Like Zamora, I’ve seen them play a few times, including the Caracas-Zamora game in May, in which Caracas won by 1-0.They’ve got some good players, like all teams.”

(Pleased to be playing in Venezuela again) “Truth is I’m really happy, the team feels good, and we’ve taken something positive away from the match.  Coming back to my country has been amazing, I’ve got some great memories from playing in the professional league, as well as my friends and team mates.  I’m really pleased to be here.”

(Zamora FC) “They were very tight during the first half, with a lot of pace upfront, but they didn’t take advantage of their goal chances.  We got ahead on the leader board with a goal from Enzo, who was really pleased he was able to score.  Now we’ve got another match in Caracas, so we need to get as much out of the game as we can.”

(Returning home) “It’s very important for me to come back to Caracas, my city, and play against their team, one of the best and most successful teams in Venezuela.  I’m sure I’ll really enjoy this game!”
