Recio: “We’ll remain ambitious without setting a specific goal”
Málaga Club de Fútbol’s José Luis García del Pozo 'Recio' held a press conference following the first training session of the week at the Ciudad de Málaga athletics stadium.
Recio begins by talking about objectives: “What we want to do now is focus on each match at a time. We have achieved our objective of permanency and will now aim as high as we can. We are a young squad and aspire to finish in the best possible position in the table. It’s important to evaluate what the team has achieved. Nobody thought we’d be in this position at this point in the competition. We must now focus on the same line of work.”
The Málaga-born midfielder is looking ahead to a special match on Saturday: “Coming up against Granada CF is very special to me, as it was the team where I grew as a footballer and as a person; I have a lot of respect for the people there. From a sporting aspect, Granada have a great squad and have played better recently. I hope they can escape the relegation zone, but our aim is to return from Granada with three points. We will focus on our style of play, concentrate on the job we need to do, stay fixed on this line of work and remain ambitious without setting a specific goal.”
The ‘Malaguista’ hopes to share victory with the Blue and Whites’ fans who are travelling to Granada this weekend: “We’ll do our best to ensure we give the ‘Malaguistas’ cause for celebration at Los Cármenes, knowing how difficult the match will be against a rival who has a lot at stake, but we’re confident in our ability.”
Lastly, Recio comments on the season so far: “The coach has always believed in us from day one, and with a mixture of experienced and young players, we’ve maintained a good level of play and excellent concentration. It’s definitely a season to admire.”
