Recio: “It’s a special match and we’re looking forward to it”
Midfielder, José Recio held a press conference this afternoon at the Ciudad de Málaga press room: “As a Malagueño, it’s a very intense match” affirms Recio ahead of Saturday’s Betis-Málaga clash.
Good time
“Good results bring joy, especially after our struggles in the first round of the competition. We’re in a good situation, particularly this week with the big news of the coach’s contract renewal, which we’re all very excited and enthusiastic about. There are nine matches left, so we must retain the level of ambition to continue doing what we’ve been doing in recent months.”
Ambition
“The coach is the first person to drum into us that we must maintain our ambition and enthusiasm in order to finish as high up the table as possible. Our first aim is to secure permanency with another victory, then we can focus on a successful end to the season, which is what remains after the competition has come to an end.”
Betis, derby rivalry
“They are always special, as was the clash with Sevilla, and as a Malagueño they are great games and very intense. We’re aware we’ll be up against a difficult rival at a tough ground, however the atmosphere will be fantastic and we’ll approach the match with fervour, hard work and ensure we’re well prepared. Claiming three points on Saturday will almost guarantee First Division permanency.”
Gracia’s renewal
“He told us before training, although some of us already knew as it was in the press the day before. It’s great news, we’ve been working with him for two years now and he’s amply shown that he’s a magnificent coach who has fulfilled the objectives in the most incredible way, both last year and this current season as we’re on the same track. I hope he’ll remain as coach for many years to come, as it’s brilliant news for everyone.”
Immediate future
“Firstly, we need to try and win another three or four points and relax a little. Now we’re solely focused on Saturday’s match and performing well against Betis, which will hopefully result in a victory.”
