Recio: “It’ll be a very equal game with two teams of similar characteristics and objectives”

Málaga Club de Fútbol midfielder, Recio, spoke to the media this morning in the Ciudad de Málaga stadium press room, ahead of the day’s training session.

(Season debut) “I’m very happy as it’s been a few months since I played in a match from the start and I’ve been wanting to it for a long time.  I’m very happy about this and above all for the team’s win.  Now I have to carry on working to get minutes and the pace of the games.”

“I left with a bit of pain.  They were just the usual cramps for not having played from the start, even though you train intensively, the matches are always more demanding.”

“The coach told me that if I was at the level that he wanted, I would play.  So I’m happy for the manager’s trust but there’s a long way to go and I’ve got to continue like this.”

(Match against Athletic). “On Sunday we have a different, complicated match in which we have to go out and give it 100 per cent to achieve a good result away - where we’ve not been getting good results this season.”

“We have to make Athletic pay the price of their last match and the trip to Russia by having a fast pace.  Both like to play more with the ball and this will make for a great game in which you can take advantage of the spaces at the back.  Also, playing in ‘The Cathedral’ is great.  We know that whichever team has two consecutive wins will make a massive jump forward in this very close league.  And we want that it to be us who does just that and we have to play our best in Bilbao.”

(Personal/San Mamés) “It brings me good memories going back to San Mamés.  Last year I debuted there, it was the first game that I played in San Mamés and I did it scoring a goal which also allowed the team to stay up.  I will always have good memories of that ground.  I hope that when we get there on Sunday, all the good memories come back.”

“It’s a great joy when the manager of the national side names you.  And it also shows that Málaga’s youth teams are doing things properly. And if they’re looking at you, you have to carry on working very hard.”
