Press conference

“We want to maintain the connection between the team and the fans; we’re going for the win”

The Málaga CF coach appeared in the press room at La Rosaleda ahead of the match against Real Zaragoza. “Our goal is to be better than four teams, and then enter the realm of hope,” he said.

Upcoming rival
“We know Zaragoza’s history; they are one of the historic clubs, with their fans, social mass, history... They should be in a higher division. Until matchday 15, they were in playoff positions, and in nine matches, there has been a coaching change, with a squad built to be at the top. This makes us stay alert, it makes us reflect. We come from a tough loss, and we face Zaragoza, with a coach who did very well with Sporting. We are focused on ourselves to improve the small details that slipped away from us the other day, and we are eager to be with our fans, who always give us that extra push.”

Excitement and humility
“The team always has spirit and the will to do things. I demand effort, will, and the desire to get things done from the players. Our goal is to be better than four teams and then enter the realm of hope, which gives us peace of mind, that is the priority we have with humility.”

Goal-scoring analysis
“I think we should have scored more goals and conceded fewer. We will always seek victory, and we need to keep improving our accuracy in front of goal. Each match creates a different context for us.”

Real Zaragoza
“A lot of things have happened to them. When we went to play there, they were in sixth place. The other day they were losing and came back to win, they have a strategy at home and play more freely away. Against Elche, they were in the game, and we've also analysed what their coach did last year in Gijón (...) This is about collective feeling and passion, with our fans, who give us that extra boost, and we want to maintain that connection between the team and the fans.”

Haitam
“He’s taking it step by step, but it’s going well. He’s handling the workload. It’s still early, there’s one more training session. We’ll wait and see, but it’s too soon to start or play 20/30 minutes.”
