Pitch renovation at Martiricos

This Monday 7th June works got underway to renovate the pitch at La Rosaleda Stadium to ensure optimum conditions ahead of the start of the 21/22 season.

For another year, the pitch at La Rosaleda responded sensationally to the demanding schedule of the 20/21 season. Málaga CF underwent regular training at the stadium, in addition to playing 21 LaLiga SmartBank matches and two Copa del Rey clashes. Moreover, both Atlético Malagueño and the Juvenil ‘A’ team each played a match at Martiricos in their respective league competitions.

If at the end of last year La Rosaleda hosted LaLiga SmartBank promotion playoff matches, during 20/21 the stadium held the semi-final of the Spanish Super Cup between Real Madrid CF and Athletic Club, as well as the final of the Copa de la Reina between FC Barcelona and EDF Logroño.

Likewise, internationally, the Norwegian national team played three matches at La Rosaleda Stadium. Namely a qualifying match for the Qatar 22 World Cup (Norway-Turkey) and two friendlies, last week, against Luxembourg and Greece (yesterday).

Summer turf

As from today, Monday, the usual protocol for the changing of the turf has been activated. The reason being that the current turf wouldn’t be able to withstand the high temperatures and humidity of the upcoming summer months in Málaga.

Firstly, the grass will be cut gradually until it is almost at ground level. The winter grass subsequently weakens and the summer grass, asleep, begins to strengthen.

A scarifying process is then carried out to weaken the grass and stimulate the root; it is then punctured, immediately afterwards, finishing with the sand-top dressing and the summer seed.

The estimated turf transition process, around 8-9 weeks, will leave the pitch at La Rosaleda in a suitable state for the initial stages of the impending season.
