The Málaga CF coach analysed the victory against Alavés in the last match of the first round of the competition: “The team has grit, they fight, they come together and it's difficult to score a goal against them. It makes me optimistic.”
The Malaguista coach appeared before the media to review the last match of the first round of LaLiga SmartBank. “We played a fairly complete game. We kept a clean sheet, so therefore you won’t lose. The team ran a great deal with a very good idea of the game. It was a very complete match against one of the teams in the promotion battle in this division,” he stated.
The victory brings the team closer to the goal of getting out of the relegation zone. Pepe Mel echoed what he said in a previous press conference: “I’m hopeful we’ll be out of the danger zone in the month of January. A week ago we were three points behind and now two, so we must continue on. The team plays good football, which isn’t normal in the situation we’re in. Their legs don’t shake, they give their all. The new players that have joined us are pumped up and raring to go, which is important,” said the coach.
Pepe sees the team in good shape, in a good dynamic and improving: “Important teams from the division have come here and we remain standing. Nobody has overwhelmed us, we have to remember that. The team has grit, they fight, they come together and it's difficult to score a goal against them. It makes me optimistic. All the players are stepping up. Now it’s time to recover, win the Cup match and focus on the match against Tenerife.”
To conclude the press conference, the Madrid-born coach dedicated a few words to the fans, whom he considers essential for Málaga CF. “The fans left happy tonight, they left with a smile, which is a joy for us. The team is in great debt to the supporters, but we are lucky that Malaguismo is with the team. The fans are always behind us, no matter what. We need to continue along this path so they can see we’re determined to get out of this situation as soon as possible,” he added.
