Pellicer: “We’re focused on the idea of being protagonists”

The Malaguista coach held a remote press conference ahead of #MálagaLasPalmas. “We have to stick together, both in defence and attack”, he stated.

Next match

We have to stick together, both in defence and attack. It’ll be a match with more concessions in terms of attack, due to the rival’s characteristics. The idea we have is clear, to play the game at our ground, be protagonists, try to keep them away from our area and try to play in the other half. However, the rival also has a very dynamic associative game, so we’ll have to manage those phases of play”.

Defined squad

“We have a group with several alternatives, and we must respect injuries. We have two players per position, and we count the reserve team players to make up a bigger squad. For us, although they are registered to the reserve team, they are clearly first team players in terms of their performance and because we believe in them. I see a great deal of enthusiasm and hunger within the group”.

Solid

“Everyone who has seen Málaga over these past four matches has seen a hungry, solid team, despite the last result. Las Palmas have 20-something professional players, a lot of young players, they’re in a construction phase and will fight to be at the top”.

Captains

“We’ve spoken with the group and we came to a joint agreement. The captains are David Lombán, Luis Muñoz, Alberto Escassi and Ismael.  We also have a player like Orlando Sá, because of the experience he can convey to the group. They represent Málaga and what we all want. People who were here last season (Lombán); those who have moved up the ranks and have been growing within the team (Luis Muñoz); a new player who comes from Málaga, such as Alberto Escassi, who has been out of the province for 10-12 years and can return, thanks to his hard work; a young lad who has come from below, working hard and conveying all the values we want (Ismael); plus Orlando Sá, who has played at top international level and brings experience and advice to the younger lads”.
