Pellicer: “We’re disappointed with the result”

The Málaga CF coach appeared before the media after the 1-1 draw against AD Mérida at La Rosaleda.

Insufficient point

“The team is upset, the dressing room is silent. We know that everything happens through La Rosaleda and we’ve had four games without achieving victory, and this is a penalty for this club. At half-time I told them that they have to transmit to the fans. We created many situations before the goal, we scored from the line after overcoming lines. We were lacking, so it’s normal for everyone to be angry. Everything happens through La Rosaleda. We’re disappointed with the result, but not with the team’s effort.”

Demanding and self-critical

“There is a level of demand for the Club and for our fans. There are a lot of young people and they are growing. I am the one responsible and have to be self-critical. We have to fight for the three remaining places, third, fourth and fifth. In this important section we are not doing well at La Rosaleda, everything happens through here. In these four games we have failed to achieve victory, and that’s what we need to do.”

Improve in front of goal

“I would be worried if we weren’t generating chances, today we did so against an opponent with almost 10 in the area. We wanted to make very fast attacks. At half-time we said that we had to play from side to side and wear down the rival. We have to continue insisting on this. The first goal got them into the game, giving a lot of energy to the rival. We are giving it to them with those defensive mistakes. In terms of attack, we are missing the last pass. I would like to generate chances like we did today but being more precise. We’ve had games in which we have been more effective. We know our duty, and we know how to work.”

Convey to the stands

“We have to improve and do things so that they see another stage at La Rosaleda. They want to see what we did in the second half, attacking. In this Club, the results pass through La Rosaleda. People make an immense effort, I apologise to the people who aren’t happy. That energy and that unity that there was at the beginning of the season with the five victories. They came to the stadium more than in the First Division because of the energy that the lads conveyed. Now it’s another situation at the most important moment, at home everything happens for us. We professionals have to ensure the fans become engaged again. We are in the most important month and a half in recent years, and we have to recover the unity between team, fans and club.”
