Pellicer: “Victory is a challenge to adversity”

The Blue and White coach held a press conference before the media after #MálagaLeganés. “Effort, work and attitude are non-negotiable, and the fans can see that,” he stated.

“The previous sensations were very positive yet were not accompanied by results. Victory is a challenge to adversity to keep surviving. We had a connection with the stands, thanks to the fans,” Pellicer started out by saying. “At 0-0 we had to make two changes due to the yellow cards that penalise us, and we can’t take risks. We changed the system, we got the goal and the last goal was scored by the fans. We need to continue suffering to be able to continue competing,” he continued.

The “effort is non-negotiable,” said the coach. “The effort, really going for the match, the aggressiveness and the individual duels. We have talent, which is shown with the effort we put in. That's what the fans see. Now the focus is on Andorra, which will be the most important game,” he stressed.

In regard to tactics, “we had one of the best first halves so far in terms of positional attack,” highlighting the entry of the substitutions: “The changes went well. The most important thing is the result and that the players feel comfortable with this line of three. The mechanisms are clear, and the important thing is to win matches.”

This has been an atypical week featuring the presence of Spain at La Rosaleda. “During the week we had more focus on the game and less distraction, thanks to the national team and the events that have taken place. We’ve been calmer each day, which we saw tonight. When we want to convey a sense of calm there’s a way to do it. We act with determination, and we have to resist with a lot of discipline,” he added.

Regarding his 'famous' blocks of matches, Pellicer commented that “it will depend on us, we have to chain a run of victories together. We divide it into four, and now we go for another block. Those below have to add points, it’s very difficult in this division to clinch consecutive victories. Against Las Palmas and Levante our goal was to get more points. With the five that we obtained, it’s enough for us to continue suffering. We have another block left in which we have to chain two consecutive victories, to win many games in the last six. We have to keep scoring points, it’s the only way.”

The Malaguista coach's message to his players is clear: “I want them to believe in self-esteem, in working with humility, and from there we’ll get where we can get. We have to keep trying until the end. Regardless of the result, we run and push more than the rival. Effort, work and attitude are non-negotiable, and the fans can see that.”

“Out of the remaining games, Andorra is the most difficult, because of where we’re coming from, how we’re working, and how we’ve seen La Rosaleda. The last goal against Leganés is the 'goal average'. It’s essential, it’s the game,” he said about the upcoming match.
