Pellicer: “There’s great excitement, everyone wants to play”

The Malaguista coach spoke to the media on the eve of the Málaga-Eldense Copa del Rey clash: “Tomorrow we face a superior rival and we are going to try to compete at home,” he stated.

Sergio Pellicer spoke to the press this afternoon at La Rosaleda where tomorrow he’ll play his 100th official match with MCF; the Copa del Rey second round match against CD Eldense.

A competitive Málaga CF in the Copa del Rey

“We are focused on tomorrow's game, it will help us compete. We always compete in the Cup, which we’ve proven. Behind us there is a lot of feeling. Tomorrow we face a superior rival and we are going to try to compete at home. It can be a good opportunity for players who are not participating too much. It’s also a good chance for boys from the reserve team to step up. I am confident that we are going to do well.”

A good time to recover players

“We rarely repeat the 11, that is the key. We have to recover players and have competitiveness in each position, that’s the most important thing. When we wear the Málaga CF jersey we carry a lot of history behind us. On the pitch is where the messages are sent to the coach.”

Excitement within the group

“The feeling from today’s training I also felt in Barakaldo. There’s great excitement, everyone wants to play. This is great. Players from the reserve team are going to step up, it’s going to be an exciting game. I’m looking forward to it.”

100 matches as MCF coach

“That’s a lot of games, and I want to thank everyone who’s been with me throughout. I have the same enthusiasm as I had the first day. There have been moments when I’ve cried, enjoyed, laughed... all with passion and enthusiasm. There are many feelings, it’s something I’ve dreamed of. I arrived as a player at a difficult time, I have been a youth coach... above all I have Blue and White blood. There are many people who have been with me and I am very grateful.”

CD Eldense

“They are a team that have been doing things well for some time, with a good financial investment. We’ll be up against a side that is going to fight to advance to the next round. It was my last team as a player and I know that house perfectly. They’ll come here with the idea of being able to put a LaLiga EA Sports team in their stadium.”

Date change for Mérida-Málaga

“It’s a great job from the Málaga CF offices. Coaches always prepare the week and something changes, but we already had the Cup. Now we have one more day to train thanks to the great work carried out in the offices.”
