Pellicer: “The point doesn’t fulfil us; the way forward is to win”

Energetic and extensive press conference with the Malaguista coach following #LugoMálaga. “We need that first victory for the team to return to that flow they had before COVID”, he stated.

Analysis of the 0-0

"From my point of view, as the match developed, we saw a Málaga in the attacking half, piling the pressure on upfront and we kicked off very well. It was a long game, highly demanding, but we started to adapt. I have to congratulate the players for the effort they made. There is no inferior rival, we were better than Lugo and did everything to win. We saw a team that wanted victory. We’re in a phase of improvement, and today we showed the best version of that during play. This team is going through so much and we must send a message that although we’re going to suffer, we’re going to do everything we can to move forward. A message of strength and criticism from within. I congratulate my players, they gave their all”.

To win is to flow

"The point doesn’t feel great, far from it, we came here for victory. We pushed from the back to the front. The statistics are there, we were very close to the area and just a lack of finish penalised us. We must adjust the crosses on our second plays and improve. The point doesn’t fulfil us, but we adjusted to the situations that arose. The way forward is to win, we need that first victory for the team to return to that flow they had before COVID. This is what we’re searching for. What concerns me the most is the players’ recovery. Those who competed gave everything and their attitude is commendable”.

Anger

"I’m angry because I think the result is unfair. We did everything to win, that makes you angry. We had various situations and came closer to winning. These are finals, another final, and another final…In one week we’re playing various matches, this generates stress and wears you down emotionally and physically”.

Incidents

"Hopefully the issue involving Hicham will be nothing major, the same with ‘Boula’. Sadiku made an immense effort too. With so many games and that workload, it’s impossible to give everything all the time. This match schedule is so tight, now we have to see who we can recover for Sunday. Everyone wants to play and not be on the bench, and we’ve seen that because of the squad we have, everyone will participate. We must adjust and try to make as few mistakes as possible. We’re critical of ourselves”.

Feeling

"We are all aware of how worried the Malaguista fans are. This is a feeling, and many people are suffering. We have to keep looking forward every day. Hopefully on Sunday we’ll clinch our first victory. We need to turn this situation around, there are no excuses. The players are people and feel it too, we’re all playing for so much, for the feeling and the viability of the Club. I only ask that we go hand in hand and support these players who will be in action on Sunday against Girona”.

Next match

"I’m sure Tete will be there; we don’t think Luis Muñoz will be available; Luis Hernández is pending evolution; and Aarón will be in training this week”.
