Pellicer: “Our greatest motivation is the fans we have behind us”
The Blue and White coach held a press conference before #VillarrealBMálaga: “It's been a season to forget, but we have to turn it into history,” he stated.
Sergio Pellicer spoke to the media after the training session this Maundy Thursday. The coach reviewed the team’s current situation: “We have to focus on tomorrow's match. Focusing on anything beyond that is pointless. It's been a season to forget, but we have to turn it into history. Our greatest motivation is the fans we have behind us. Around 500 Malaguistas will be with us tomorrow in Vila-real, we have to dignify ourselves and work hard every day. Only a win will do, but we must think about the present, as if not, it’ll hurt twice as much,” he commented.
The commitment from the team is palpable. The coach went on to say: “Bustinza will be there tomorrow. It’s the certainty that all the players are available, which is something to take into account. They’re so committed and hopefully the results will go our way. The other day we didn't do things well and we lost. There are times when we perform well, and we don't win. We don't have to leave everything to chance, it’s about working harder and seeking our level of excellence. We have to perform at an excellent level as the situation requires it.”
Tomorrow's game won’t be easy. The lads are facing a high-quality reserve team who play good football: “Villarreal CF are an example of good management in all aspects. They’ve been working on their youth teams at an exemplary level, it’s a mirror in which to look at ourselves. They are a hard-working team, with a coach who is managing players, who in 50-60% of cases will be playing at the highest-level next season. They have a great deal of quality, one of the best in set pieces. This will be a match where they want to be dominant, they’re in the midst of a good dynamic, with five games without a loss. We’ll find ourselves playing an open match, against a brave opponent who will be focused on maintaining possession. We also want to have the ball, pile the pressure on, get the attacking players free to move, and reach the area from the outside to find a shot. It's going to be a nice match for the fans to watch,” Pellicer added.
The Blue and White fans will mobilise en masse to support their team: “Around 500 Malaguistas will be there. We have to give people who don't believe reasons to believe, and those with doubts, we have to make doubt less. We have to give our all as we know the sacrifice they make, at a family, financial and time level. It’s the greatest motivation. We have to dignify the profession, with honour, for the fans there and everyone supporting us at home. We have to do our best, very few teams have such great support. We thank them all and hope to be able to celebrate the victory with them,” the coach said.
