Pellicer: “We need 30 more points to reach our goal”
The Málaga coach spoke after the team's victory at La Rosaleda (1-0). “Last year, we were in the Primera RFEF. Now, we're the newest team here and have 20 points after 14 games,” he said.
Match analysis
“We're building on what we’ve been doing in LaLiga. We knew this match would be challenging. In the first half, there were a lot of emotions due to the VAR decisions, which ultimately brought justice. They looked for quick transitions, and when we managed to find that patience, it became a matter of wearing them down. The goal came from a second play, and then in the second half, we had chances to score a second goal, which would have made it a more comfortable game. Winning in this hard-fought way is valuable for us because every win in this league is very difficult to achieve.”
Good team game
“It wasn’t comfortable because of the decision-making in that last play. This was the match where we had the most possession and the best game structure. This team beat the league leader, so for me, it’s as if we beat the leader. I see a lot of positives, and it keeps us on our toes. Last year, we were in the Primera RFEF; now, we’re the newest team here, and we have 20 points after 14 games. We still need 30 more.”
Bold approach
“We spent a lot of time attacking against 10 players, I didn’t even see that last year. We were on the edge of their area with no gaps or spaces, which shows that opponents respect us. We want to be daring, with high full-backs, and if they score against us, let it be because we were brave.”
Solid performance
“We have a great goalkeeper, and to be the team with the fewest goals conceded, you need that. Opponents arrive very worn out in that area. I’ve been here many matches and have been labelled as defensive, but I prefer to be bold. We’re one of the teams with the most possession in the league, and we’re newcomers. We need to maintain balance, starting with defensive solidity.”
Jeers at Cordero
“We can't be our own worst enemy. I feel it passionately because it hurts. This is my home. No one at this club is indispensable. The players are the true protagonists. He scored that goal… you ride the wave, and now what? If you don't train well, I'll give you a paid holiday. We’ve just come from Primera RFEF, new to the Second Division. We need 30 more points to then be ambitious. The fans were there for us in the toughest moments.”
