Pellicer: “We didn’t show our best version, we need to keep improving”

The Málaga CF coach spoke at a press conference after the #TenerifeMálaga match. “We are working on correcting our mistakes to secure the three points at home,” he stated.

Match review

“We didn't show our best version, especially in a first half where the rival beat us in second plays and with the penalty incident. In the second half, we adjusted better and were superior at times. We leave with a draw that feels like little, knowing we need to improve and that today we let a great opportunity to earn three points slip away. Away from home, this was probably our worst first half of the season.”

Changes in the second half

“We adjusted the pressure and increased the intensity. Concentration was key because when the opponent wins second balls, it means they are better positioned. That's why we decided to push Castel and Aaron further up, while the midfielders shifted into a double pivot. It's true that Tenerife put in a lot of effort in the first half, and we knew we would have our chances in the second. Football is like that, you can dominate or struggle at times, but what really makes the difference is finishing and scoring, and today neither team was accurate in that aspect.”

Rotation in the starting-11

“In this marathon of matches that we're all facing, managing from the bench in high-intensity games is challenging. However, I believe we made the right changes, always aiming for what’s best for the team. In two days, we face Eibar, and the demands of the competition are enormous, so there will likely be several rotations. These are the situations the squad is prepared for: managing effort and maintaining our physical condition in the best possible way.”

Performance in the standings

“It's true that, along with the leader, we are one of the teams that has lost the least, but the difference is that they've turned their games into wins, while we've had draws. Today, we lacked that extra step, though there were moments when we were close to turning it around. This team has heart, it fights until the last minute, and we're working to correct our mistakes and secure the three points at home.”
