Pellicer: “Competing like this on this stage has a lot of merit”

The Malaguista coach is proud of his players following the 0-4 Cup win. “I’m very happy for the group as it’s been a while since Málaga CF got through the first round”, he said after #CoruxoMálaga.

Analysis of the victory

“Coruxo repeated the same team that played the other day against Pontevedra, when they played a great match against a team that will likely fight to be in the playoffs. You know perfectly well how tough it is to compete how we competed here at Do Vao, even though we are in a higher division”.

“I’m so proud of this group of players, as they worked hard and had the same attitude as the rival. In the end, when you have the same attitude as your opponent, and the same willingness to work hard, quality appears. And all this, despite the problems we’re having, in relation to the starting-11, with the changes, having to leave David Larrubia out due to the regulations”.

“I’m very happy for the group, all the players, as it’s been a while since Málaga CF got through the first round. We’ve broken the curse”.

Do Vao

“I have the experience of having debuted here during my time with Deportivo 'B' and I know it perfectly well. In addition, I know the coach as the year I was with Dépor, he was with Rápido de Bouzas. I feel immensely satisfied as motivating in this type of game, when you’re at the top, is difficult. I’m happy because we’ve shown where we come from, this team is incredibly humble. We are a historic team, but right now we’re in a situation requiring a great deal of humility and hard work, which represents Coruxo’s values”.

“We have a name and a story behind us that drives us to win, no matter the rival we’re facing. This is the biggest stage as, although the rival is in a lower category, coming to play here with the condition of the pitch, against a rival like Coruxo, competing how they did and winning how we did, is really tough. Very few teams can make that difference”.

Effectiveness and competing

“I said yesterday before the match, if someone expected to watch a beautiful game, with a lot of touch, playing in the other half etc…it’s difficult. Both teams adjusted to the pitch. For me, competing on this field of play has a lot of merit because every time you stepped on it, it would rise, the ball would stop or travel at another speed. It was the same for both teams, this is no excuse. It’s great that we’re used to playing on pitches in perfect condition”.

"You have to play on all types of pitches, so it’s great that we came here and competed like we did."
