(Immediate future) “With regards to my situation here, it’s very clear. I’m staying here to help the team as much as possible through these tough times. It’s just unfortunate that everything has been left until the last minute. Teams have from 13th May to undergo the restructuring process and plan everything as well as possible; but now there’s hardly any time left, as everything was on hold. However we have no intention of turning our back on the Club; we’re all still very excited, and have fond memories of the end of last season. The players are determined to see the team in the Champions League, and are working extremely hard every day to be as fit as possible. We know it’s not going to be easy, but we’ll be fighting as hard we can to qualify. The team spirit is untouchable at the moment, despite everything that’s been going on. Every player has performed fantastically well during the pre-season, but I don’t think it’s acceptable that they’ve had to wait this long for payment. These problems could be resolved in five minutes.”
“As soon as the situation is sorted out with the players, then I’ll stop worrying. I feel responsible that some of the team who didn’t make an official complaint did so because of me. My relationship with the Club is a good one; I have no problem staying here and fulfilling my obligations in the future. We’ll analyse the future as soon as these problems are resolved, but changes definitely need to be made. Teams, players and whatever else the future holds will be decided at the right moment, but now isn’t the time. The coaching team and the players are all completely focused on the Champions play-offs, and with the support of our fans we’re excited about qualifying and looking ahead. My intention has always been to stay at Málaga, I’m very happy here. Whilst all the problems are being sorted out, I will of course remain here.”
(Pre-season evaluation) “I think the pre-season went exactly as planned, with regards to physical training, and the level of play during the friendly matches. The team’s performance has been amazing during the pre-season. Despite everything that’s been happening here, the players were very impressive in Venezuela, and also most recently in Greece. Restructuring a team just days before the start of the League season and Champions play-offs, shows the level of team spirit and top quality game play throughout the squad.”
