No points for the lads tonight (1-0)

Defeat for Málaga CF against CD Mirandés, at Anduva, on matchday 27 of LaLiga SmartBank. The Blue and Whites deserved a better result, but their dominance didn’t translate into goals. Daniel Vivian scored the winner for the locals.

It was a chilly night in Miranda de Ebro, and on the pitch, Pellicer selected the same starting-11 except the position of right back, where Alexander replaced Ismael on that side. The Venezuelan, Joaquín and Yanis, all former Mirandés players, were part of the Blue and White line-up that returned to a 1-4-1-4-1 formation.

After the initial 10 minutes, the first Malaguista opportunity arrived. Luis Muñoz and Yanis, in the same play, sent the ball to the right post. In 14’, a long ball from Mejías found Chavarría, whose shot went to the right of the net. Two minutes later, it was Joaquín who tried his luck with a left-footed trademark move. The team arrived, dominated and conveyed a constant feeling of danger.

As well as the cold temperatures, a fine rain accompanied the match from half an hour into play. In 31’, there was another goal opportunity. A Yanis cross and a header from Chavarría, but the ball didn’t find the net. In 40’, MCF came close to an opener with a shot from Yanis that narrowly missed the target. At half-time, the scoreboard remained all square.

In the second half, Málaga followed their match plan against a local side that sought to be more aggressive. Chavarría, wearing a bandage on his head after sustaining injury in the first half, had a one on one that was declared offside (54’). Pablo, in 63’, suffered an injury to the left knee that caused him to limp further. Caye, in 66’, came on in place of the Argentinean.

Twenty minutes before the end, Ramón overcame his shoulder injury and returned to the pitch in place of Luis Muñoz (left ankle injury). Mirandés, in an isolated action, took the lead with a goal from Daniel Vivian that was subject to a VAR check (1-0, 73’). Pellicer, in 81’, made a triple substitution, bringing on Jairo, Orlando Sá and Julio upfront.

However, the equaliser didn’t arrive, and the feeling of football injustice reigned, with a 1-0 defeat at Anduva. Such a shame!
