“We didn’t start well, but the path to follow is what we showed in the second half. This is a learning experience”

Málaga CF’s coach spoke after the defeat against Cádiz CF. “We feel a lot of frustration for our fans. We didn’t deserve to lose,” he said.

First defeat at home

“In a match there are different phases. We weren’t good for 20–25 minutes of the first half, it was very sluggish. The first chance was ours, then they had one. And the second half wasn’t dull, we played in the opponent’s half against a team that defended deep in every way. The path forward is the second half, that attitude, that’s what we want. We couldn’t score, and that’s also credit to the opponent. We lacked precision. It’s a learning experience, and I congratulate the boys for the second half.”

Adjustment for the second half

“We weren’t able to connect with Juanpe in the first line, nor find that forward pass to turn the rival around. They felt comfortable when Suso drifted wide and linked up with Álvaro. In the second half we made changes, with players providing more depth, two strikers and three inside. The team managed to reach that second line, but we lacked precision. Against a team that’s at the top and sat back deep… If there are ways to lose, let it be like in the second half.”

Niño’s substitution

“He twisted his ankle, I don’t think it’s serious. We had to take a risk. We sacrificed Lobete a bit to give Adrián more presence, knowing this could happen. I hope he recovers soon.”

Different matches

“In Las Palmas we had one chance and scored, and today, in the match where we created the most chances, we lacked precision.”

Focused on the day-to-day

“We feel a lot of frustration for our fans. We didn’t deserve to lose. Now we have to manage well with two away games coming up. Focus on the day-to-day and keep working, there’s nothing else we can say.”
