Montero: “We’re confident we can turn this around; we’re going to move forward”

The Málaga defender spoke on Thursday in the ‘Juan Cortés’ Press Room at La Rosaleda. “We’re frustrated by what happened in the last two matches; that gives us extra motivation to face the next game,” he said.

Ambition for the visit to the Reino de León

“We go into every match with the same mindset, to win. That’s what we’ve been working on this week, and we’re eager to challenge them with full positivity, aiming to get all three points.”

Self-critical and positive

“Personally, I’m feeling great, but you always want more, and we haven’t achieved that collectively. Every match is different, and I always strive to give my best. I’m very self-critical and will always aim to improve on the field, whether I play well or poorly. I focus on both the positives and negatives of my performance. I’m happy, confident, and certain that we can turn this around and move forward.”

For the three points

“I look at how we are day by day, we’re frustrated by what happened in the last two matches. That will actually help us approach the next game with more determination, reflect on ourselves, and recognise what we’ve done well and what we’ve done wrong. We know what’s happened, and we’re going to León to get the three points and put in a good performance there.”

Unconditional support

“We can’t ask for more from them, they cheer us on at every match, both home and away. We have an incredible fanbase. We just need to keep working, give our best, and the results will come, 100%.”

All together

“I don’t get involved in that, it’s the sporting director’s job. I only know how we are day by day, calm as always and eager to turn this around. I’m sure that together we will.”

Focused on daily work

“We need to stay focused on our daily work, as that’s what will help us take the next step forward. You hear what’s happening outside, but we have to stay calm, look at ourselves, and drive this forward from within.”

The partnership with Murillo

“Murillo is a good player, and I feel comfortable playing with him or with anyone. What matters is that the team is functioning well; it doesn’t matter who plays. We’re a team, and every player is ready to give 100%.”

Matches away from the Costa del Sol

“Every team wants to be strong at home, just like we do, which shows how tough this league is. We want to win games on the road, but the opponents make it difficult. There are things we can improve, but football always has the other team to contend with. We want to win every match; some we’ll lose, some we’ll win, some we’ll draw. With the ambition to win each game, we always go out there ready to fight for the victory.”

Responsibility of the whole team

“It’s a collective effort. We’re playing with a higher line, which can create more challenges. I see it more from a team perspective, everyone attacks and everyone has to defend. We’re a team, and it has to be viewed that way. When we score, it’s not just the striker, and when we defend, it’s not only the back four and the goalkeeper.”
