Miguel Torres: “Kicking off LaLiga at home is always positive”

The Malaguista defender analyses the LaLiga Santander 17/18 calendar: “We’re preparing well during the pre-season and keen to start LaLiga in the best way”.

Starting LaLiga at La Rosaleda

“Kicking off LaLiga at home is always positive, in front of our fans. Obviously, it will be a game where we’ll have to give everything we’ve got and start by winning the three points. Eibar were one of the best performing teams last season, so it’s not going to be an easy game, but we’re preparing well during the pre-season and keen to start LaLiga in the best way. I hope it’s a good match for us”.

Changes

“We’ve had some significant changes. Players who have been very important to us in recent years, new players…I think we all need to take a step forward. We must assume our responsibility and form a practical group, to be available to the coach as soon as possible and compete at 100 per cent”.

Captain

“Captains have left us, quite suddenly, and it’s not easy filling the void they’ve left. At the end of the day, football moves in stages and now it’s the turn of players who have been with the Club a long time. In this respect, Recio is the captain and we complete the trio with Roberto Rosales and myself. This is somewhat anecdotal. The most important thing is that we all recognise the responsibility we have, form a group as quickly as we can and be ready for the coach and sports management for everything they need”.

Sports project

“I think it’s a very good idea that Arnau is leading this project. He’s bringing in very contrasting players, who know LaLiga well and can easily adapt to our group. This has been shown in the first few weeks of the pre-season, which is extremely positive to speed everything up in the initial stage. It’s easy to work with this coaching team, and I think we could have many variants. I’m sure we’ll see further departures and arrivals of players, and we need to be ready to face the start of LaLiga”.

Good dynamic of work

“Finishing last season on an upward trend is positive and will serve us well for the start of this season’s competition. I believe the coaching team has every strength to convey what they want from us, which they showed us in the last few months of last season. What we need to do is convince them that we are here to compete and form part of the starting-11 in the first LaLiga fixture. This is the objective we should all have, respecting our teammates and what Málaga CF signifies”.

Ending LaLiga against Getafe CF

“I believe Getafe had a great season, it’s not easy facing relegation to the Second Division and the following year returning to be part of this group of privileged teams in the First Division. During the start of this initial stage, they’ll probably have less preparation time, but I think they’ll be a great team. They always compete well, it’s always difficult at their ground, and I wish them all the best, except when we face them”!
