Míchel: “We lacked forcefulness”

The Málaga CF coach analyses the work of his players: “When a team has order and an idea of play, usually the results will arrive”.

“I think we lacked forcefulness somewhat, but above all, encouragement. We can’t say we played a catastrophic match. After our first oversight, they went in front, which made the match an uphill struggle for us, however, the team soldiered on. We’re not happy with the situation and the result, but we can’t blame the players too much. They tried their best and showed on the pitch what we’ve been doing in training during the week. Success sometimes appears, other times it doesn’t”.

Better football than results

“Logically, we thought we’d have more points. We’ve had better football than results, both in the match against Alavés and tonight as well. At this point in the season, you can’t think about merits, only facts, and the facts are that the results aren’t coming. I can’t reproach anything. You can fail a pass, a shot or a clearance, that can happen, but the players did on the pitch what we’ve been working on. We need to find solutions from an encouragement point of view, as the players suffer from the blows they receive”.

System of play

“I think we had sufficient order and depth. At times the forwards played together a little too much, and didn’t make the most of midfield. In addition, we tried to approach too quickly. The system is flexible. Sometimes we defended with four, other times with three. We wanted to take advantage of the alternatives on the wings with Juankar and Rosales”.

Confidence

“When you talk about football, you talk about goals, passes or shots. If I could give my players something, it would be confidence. One cannot speak of merits, but of points and winning. I believe that when a team has order and an idea of play, usually the results will arrive. With me, there’s no such thing as discouragement. You cannot say anything to the players. They need to do the work we’ve prepared for and that’s that. I would like to give the players a boost”.

Calendar

“I look at my calendar, but I also look at the others. Under equal conditions, we maintain a six-point lead, awaiting tomorrow’s matches. I know that’s not comforting, but the matchdays are for everyone. Circumstances are changing. It’s true that we’re competing against teams that play a great deal, but the rest are the same. There’s no peace or time to relax until the last day. I knew that when I came to Málaga it would be to suffer. I know we’ll suffer until the end, but we’ll achieve our goal”.
