Míchel: “I trust in my players; we can do a lot more”

The Málaga CF coach affirms that the start of the season “is being very hard for us. We’re making mistakes and every time we do so it costs us a goal”.

Match analysis

“We certainly started well, entered the match strongly, created dangerous situations, forced the rival keeper to intervene, but it was unthinkable that we were 0-1 down at half time. However, the team recovered and we managed to equalise. We sought solutions and found ourselves conceding a second goal, which was very tough for us. From then on, beyond the chances we had to go level, the match was broken”.

Lack of success

“It’s normal that the lads feel nervous. They see that they’re doing their job, but things aren’t turning out well. There are a lot of young players, and that affects them. Today I haven’t seen any impotence. For one reason or another we weren’t successful in attack or defence. This has led to poor results against teams who will be in a similar situation to ours. This news isn’t great. We need to understand it and overcome it. We can’t feel down so soon”.

Confidence

“Of course, I’m concerned, it’s understandable. I trust in my players, and I think we can do a lot more. This competition is very hard for us. We’re making mistakes and every time we do so it costs us a goal. This is the First Division and we have to deal with it”.

Fans’ support

“The fans almost filled the stadium, like they did against Eibar, which was also on a Monday. Our supporters were behind us all the way. They were very excited for this season, yet we’ve found ourselves in a different scenario. We must face it head on, and I think the fans do their job well cheering on the team. You cannot reproach the fans or indeed the players for anything, they did what they could, but sometimes things don’t turn out right. Up to now, this start of the season has been unpleasant and very tough for us”.

Calendar

“We were also going to earn points from these three games, but we haven’t been able to. Football is as changeable as the moods. We were the same last year, then we won a game and everything looked different. That’s how it goes. The competition is very long, there’s time for everyone, the team will recover sooner or later, and we’ll find solutions through results. Next, we’ve got Atlético de Madrid coming up. We are well aware how difficult going to Atlético’s ground is, due to the team they are, but every matchday is full of examples of good results from inferior teams against the major sides. The calendar is the least thing to worry about. Last season was an example for us”.
