The Navarra-born defender, Nacho Monreal, recently gave an interview with the Club’s sport channel, MCF-TV, in which he assessed the latest goings on.
Last leg of the league “There are only a few matches left, which will decide everything. We’re in a position where we’re still fighting to be part of European competition. The league is very close and I hope we can end the competition in the best possible way”.
Matches home and away: “Away from home the results don’t reflect the work we’re doing. Those points we’re leaving behind mean that some days we’re in Europe, and others not. We’ve still got time to correct that. We play really well at home, a strong team with great support from our fans, which enables us to get the points”.
Continuity “At the beginning the trainer believed more in Eliseu, who was playing very good football and I’ve known him since last year, so it’s only right that he kept playing. I got a chance to be part of a match when he was sanctioned. Helping out for me is getting a goal, I’m a defender, but if you can give this ‘plus’ to a team, it helps.”
Competition “Eliseu, as well as being a great player, is also an amazing person and we get on very well, he’s a good person. I’m very happy to have a team mate like him”. Osasuna memories “I was born there, it’s my home, and given the chance to play for Osasuna, where I stayed for 13 years, playing for five years for my town’s first team. I’ll always remember this part of my career, and have great memories from this Club and still keep in touch with my ex team mates and colleagues from Osasuna”.
The Eurocopa, a challenge “I wasn’t called-up for the last friendly, but that makes you work harder and do the best you can and, hopefully, I’ll be in the next one.”
The European dream “They’ve made a team so that it can be in European competitions next year, we’re aware that it won’t be easy but we’re going to give it our all in every match and hopefully we’ll in there at the end of the season.”
