Mathijsen: “We’ve grown in confidence and now we have to go after our League objective””
Málaga Club de Fútbol central defender, Joris Mathijsen, spoke to the media today, Friday, in the Ciudad de Málaga’s press room.
Joris Mathijsen’s statements:
“It was tough losing the qualifier against Madrid, even though we played two very different games to the League match we had with them. These games have given us more confidence to keep working on what we’re doing and we hope to start this year with some good results against Sporting on Sunday and get the three points that we want and need:”
“Now our objective is to continue with the League and achieve our aim of European positions, without giving too much importance to what’s gone before, and taking advantage of this confidence we’re getting with each match that we play after the summer’s incorporation of new players. We’re only thinking about Sunday’s match even though we know that in this month we still have to face Sevilla and Barcelona. But for now our minds are focussed on Sporting and we’ll fight this game with the same confidence and intensity that we’ve shown in the last few matches.”
“As each game goes by, we’re feeling increasingly comfortable and we play with more confidence in defence. It was normal that there was a process of adaption after various new players joined in the summer. In addition, playing with Toulalan on defensive tasks in the midfield helps the team a lot.”
“I’m happy having taken the decision to come to Málaga. It’s important to feel part of a new project that’s only just beginning. After a few complicated months of adaption for the family, having come from Holland and Germany, we’re all now very happy and content to be here.”
