The team of ex Málaga players travelled to Gijón to face Sporting in the Veterans Indoor Fertiberia League, the second match of the 2011/12 season. League champions Sporting defeated Málaga by 6-4.
The Pabellón Ceares Coto Viesques de Gijón saw a great game between Sporting Gijón and Málaga Club de Fútbol. Despite the heavy losses at the last minute, both teams played brilliantly during the 60 minutes.
The home team took control of the game, with two chances to score for Tomás and Mario Cotelo. However Málaga, with an excellent attempt at goal by Haro, managed to cling to the 0-0 draw, until Vega scored the first goal for Málaga. Both goalkeepers Ramón and Haro must be commended as there were many goal opportunities for both teams. Sporting continued to dominate the game thanks to excellent play by Tomás, leading his team ahead by half time.
The second half started much the same as the first. Both teams were positioned well, and there were chances at goal for both sides, however Raúl scored 7 minutes later. The next few minutes were frantic and Málaga tried to end the match in a draw with just 10 minutes left.
However in the last few minutes, Málaga were unable to defeat Sporting, a much more rounded team, with goals from Rubén Blaya and Tomás, despite great play from Málaga goalkeeper Haro.
