Match preview: #MálagaAlbacete

Málaga CF and Albacete Balompié will lock horns tomorrow, at La Rosaleda stadium on LaLiga 1|2|3 matchday 9. Kick off on tomorrow’s bank holiday is at 16:00.

An historic ascent

On 30th May 1999, Málaga CF welcomed Albacete Balompié to La Rosaleda on Second Division matchday 39. This was the first match for Málaga with its current name against the La Mancha team. The 3-2 victory led to the team’s promotion to the elite and the city of Málaga had a First Division team again after 9 years.

Peiró’s Málaga line-up: Rafa, Larrainzar, Roteta, Bravo, Valcarce, Agostinho (Quino ’75), Sandro (Ruano ’64), Movilla, Rufete, Catanha and Edgar (Guede ’79). José Juan Luque scored the 0-1 in minute 1’; Bravo, from a free kick, equalised (1-1, 11’); Edgar, with a pass from Sandro, scored the 2-1 (17’); and Portuguese player Agostinho netted the 3-1 (37’). Díaz from the visitors scored the 3-2 (59’).

Basti’s match

Since his debut with CD Málaga in an official match in 1991, Sebastián Fernández Reyes ‘Basti’ became an idol to the Malaguista fans. After remaining with CD Málaga, Atlético Malagueño and Málaga CF for close to a decade, he moved to Albacete Balompié.

Basti got to face Albacete Balompié as a Málaga CF player in the Second Division at the Carlos Belmonte (03/01/1999). With Albacete he visited La Rosaleda in the First Division (28/03/2004), and both games ended in a draw.
