Muñiz: “Today we have not been only eleven”

The Málaga CF coach was happy with the comeback. “The team knew how to react, took possession and rebuilt chances,” he said.

The match
“The team made a very complete first half, with a lot of possession at the other end of the pitch, with a lot of drive, a lot of order and a lot of patience. In the first half we had a lot of chances, although we didn’t get the goal. We had them quite far from Zozulya’s danger zone. The game was pretty much on track, then came the difficult time with that goal, but best thing is that the team knew how to react, took possession and again generated chances. The fans helped us a lot. I want to thank the fans, it has been a show, they gave us wings and helped us to turn it around. We were not just 11, it was a spectacle to see the atmosphere at La Rosaleda today, it resounded and that helps the players.”

Details
“I always say that when I start a season what I hope is that the team works, competes, and that the fans are proud of the club. In the Second Division thinking about what can happen is just a waste of time, because you think what you think and there’s always a lot of evenness; the results are always very fair and are determined by the smallest details. You have to be able to play those moments and overcome situations. Right now we are being very reliable.”

Work
“What you have to do is try to win the three points that are in play.  How? However you can! You try to win them, with order, with sacrifice, with work ... We knew that they could create dangerous situations with their two forwards, with set pieces ... and I think we have kept their danger away from our area 90% of the time. It’s a hard-won victory from a very good team. I knew what I was doing, I knew how to work and how to compete.”

No favorites
“Any rival that comes along you say, ‘uf, complicated match.’ The phrase that overaches the category is that there are no favorites. Favoritism must be won inside and, for that, many times you have to know what the match requires. To say: ‘the match requires this’; that’s fundamental. That we know how to read, that we know how to understand, and how to play in all situations. The team makes a lot of progress in all of that.”
