Match preview: #BurgosMálaga

Málaga CF will kick off the 22/23 season at El Plantío against Burgos CF. The first LaLiga SmartBank match of the season for the Blue and Whites will get underway on Sunday at 22:00.

The Malaguistas begin their fifth consecutive season in the silver division, whilst Burgos affront their second. MCF ended last season in 18th place (45 points), and Burgos were 11th (55 points).

The match will be officiated by Daniel Jesús Trujillo Suárez. The ref from Tenerife has been in the Second Division for 11 seasons, accumulating 189 matches (84 local victories, 57 draws and 48 away wins). During these games, he showed 895 yellow cards (an average of 4.74 per match) and 44 red cards. Heading up the VAR is Gorka Sagués Oskoz from Gipuzkoa.

  • Eight of the 10 Malaguista signings could make their debut wearing the Blue and White jersey, namely: Yáñez, Juanfran, Ramalho, Bustinza, Burgos, Gallar, Fran Sol and Rubén Castro. Febas did so in January 2022 and Manolo Reina in March 2006.

  • CD Málaga visited El Plantío nine times; four in the First Division and five in the Second Division. The Malaguista results were one victory (against Real Burgos), two draws and six defeats (against Burgos CF).
  • During the Burgos CF 2-1 CD Málaga match, held on 10th May 1981, Burgueña, who that day was a substitute goalkeeper for CD Málaga, came on as a pitch player, replacing Castro in the final stages of the game. This was the only time in the history of CD Málaga that this situation arose.
