Manu Molina: “The fans are impressive, hats off to them”

The Malaguista midfielder was one of the players who spoke to the media after the draw at Nuevo Arcángel. “We need to continue along this line; we’re happy with the point and we’re still unbeaten since April," he stated.

Match analysis

“It was a match where they started strong in the first half. They struggled in the first three games and didn’t earn any points, so they came out at home determined to beat us. We managed to hold our ground with our 4-4-2 formation. It's a good point in a tough venue; Córdoba plays very well, as we saw last year. They had more chances than us, but we also had our opportunities and moments of attack. This is the Second Division, and it’s important to be consistent, which is what we’ve been in these first four games.”

Unbeaten

“This league has 42 games, and it's very long. Not losing, continuing to accumulate points, and getting into rhythm are crucial. We need to correct certain things; next week we have Huesca, which will be another tough and different match compared to Córdoba. They will likely play 4-4-2 and try to wait us out, so we need to approach the game as we did at La Rosaleda. It's a point we need to make count next week, in a tough place like Córdoba, where we know they press high and aim to control possession. The team came out fully engaged; it’s a point earned, and we must keep going. It’s only matchday 4, with 38 more games and a lot of league competition ahead.”

The toughest match to date

“Out of these four matches, yes. In the other three, we played well, but today the rival made us sit back a bit more due to their style of play and high pressing. We didn’t find the spaces well, and when we reached the final third, we lacked the composure to control the ball in the attacking half. These teams push you to the limit and keep you on your toes. We learn from every experience, and many teams play like this. We’re leaving here feeling reinforced; we have things to correct, and we need to keep going. Next week, we have Huesca at home, and we’re very happy with this point, which we need to build on against Huesca.”

Difficulty in attack

“They’re a team that demands a lot; they make many transitions and attack very quickly. We didn’t have the composure in the final third to move the ball from side to side. These are the kinds of games you encounter, and it’s a good point, but there are things to correct. We need to keep moving forward; it’s only the fourth matchday, and there’s still a long way to go.”

A team with soul

“We’re a very strong team, showing signs of strength both in defence and attack. Opponents see us as a tough team to break down; when we concede a goal, the team responds with confidence and never loses its fighting spirit, which has been a hallmark since last year. The coach instils this in us; we need to stay true to our philosophy of play. Our spirit is undeniable, and that’s something we can never lose.”

Adapting to LALIGA HYPERMOTION

“We’ve retained 80-85% of the core group from last year; we all know each other well and the coach, the new arrivals have adapted perfectly, which is very important in this division. There’s a step up, but it's easier to play than in Primera RFEF. There are good players and tactically strong teams that allow you to play. We need to continue along this path, happy with the point, and we’re still unbeaten since April. We’ll see how far we can go. I’m excited and looking forward to Saturday’s match against Huesca, and aiming to secure the three points at home.”

Partnership with Luismi

“He’s a different type of player, more focused on containment, stealing the ball, and playing simply. The coach decides, and I adapt to whoever it is. I like to have the ball and am committed in everything I do. Regardless of who plays alongside me, I’m always comfortable with whoever I’m paired with.”

1,000 Malaguistas at the Nuevo Arcángel

“Hats off to the fans. Last year, wherever we went, at home or away, they were always there. That’s incredibly important; there’s been a strong bond with the fans since last year, which has been evident with the season ticket holders. We can’t ask for more from them, and that’s why every time we step onto the pitch, we think about those 30,000 supporters who come every weekend, the city, and the badge we wear. For all of that, we need to give our best on the pitch.”
