Malagueño still in the fight to reach 2ª RFEF

Following yesterday’s win, the Blue and White reserve team will fight to play in the remodelled fourth division of national football next season.

With a match remaining before the final permanency phase (in the current Third Division) comes to an end, Club Atlético Malagueño have mathematically sealed a place in the promotion playoffs to the new Segunda RFEF.

The 0-1 away win in Torreperogil with a goal from Vicario, who has excelled in the second phase of the season scoring four goals in five games, puts the reserve team at the top of the group with 38 points and a coefficient of 1,6522. Juventud de Torremolinos have the same figures and have also qualified to the final phase of the campaign. The Malaguistas and Torremolinenses will fight for first place next weekend, when Malagueño will welcome Huétor Vega to La Rosaleda Stadium (Sunday 9th, 12:00) behind closed doors.

Atlético Malagueño’s path to move up to Segunda RFEF is as follows. Three elimination rounds always away from home (unless the rival in the last round is Torremolinos), in a single game, when only a win will do as a draw would put the home team through. In the event of a tie at full-time there will be extra time, but no penalty shoot-out.

“As the first team has shown this year, adversity is nothing more than a lever allowing you to apply more force. We’re happy we’ve qualified, but above all excited by what the players have shown us in this second phase. The most difficult still awaits us, as all the matches will be away from home and a draw eliminates us. Having competed very well away to Huétor Tájar and Torreperogil fills us with optimism to face and enjoy what’s coming up. The group is hopeful and determined. We want to end the second phase well on Sunday and move on to the next round”, says reserve team coach Juan Francisco Funes.

Vamos, Malagueño!
