Málaga: Foundation of Spanish youth football

Juvenil DH and CD San Félix will be taking part in the Copa del Rey of the category. In addition, the Blue and Whites’ first ‘juvenil’ team will be participating in the Copa de Campeones for the fifth consecutive year.

The prolific Málaga CF youth ranks surpassed themselves again at the weekend. The golden years of Málaga youth football continues and its dominance on the national and regional stage exceeds all known records in Andalusian territory.

Yesterday, Sunday was an historic day for football in the province. The Juvenil DH team was proclaimed league champions for the second year running. David Cabello’s boys defeated Almería (2-0) to end a dream season and again qualify for the Copa de Campeones and the Copa del Rey.

The other satellite team of the MCF Academy, CD San Félix, also won a pass to the Copa del Rey, to finish as one of the best third-place teams in the ‘juvenil’ category in the country. Alejandro Acejo’s team surpassed rivals such as Sevilla FC, Granada CF, UD Almería, Córdoba CF and Cádiz CF.

Copa de Campeones

Competing in the most prestigious youth tournament in Spain are Athletic Club de Bilbao, Real Sporting de Gijón, FC Barcelona, Club Atlético de Madrid, Atlético Madrileño, UD Las Palmas, CD Tenerife and Málaga CF.  The Copa de Campeones will be held from 30th April until 5th May in Ciudad Real and Puerto Llano. The draw will take place this Tuesday 10th April.

The Malaguista team will be taking part in the Copa de Campeones for the fifth consecutive year. In 2016, the boys won the title after defeating Sevilla FC on penalties. Last year, the team reached the final and suffered a narrow defeat (1-0) against Real Madrid CF.

Copa del Rey

For the first time in history, two Málaga teams will be taking part in the Copa del Rey juvenil (Málaga CF and CD San Félix). The competition kicks off two weeks after the Copa de Campeones in May, bringing together the two best teams of the seven groups in the División de Honor Juvenil from all over the country, and the two best third-place teams from each group.
